Possible Itinerary for Tassie (UPDATED)

Postby Thommo » Wed Mar 26, 2008 7:50 pm

Okay, here is the much awaited updated itinerary suggested by our man on the spot Fjreggie. i have copied his notes here on this itinerary.

GENERAL NOTES:

1. This itinerary is for members attending the "TASSIE ASSAULT" to get an idea of what is acheivable in the time frame available. It is by no means "set in concrete". It is for you to peruse & make suggestions if you think it should be different…ie: longer/shorter.....more time in certain towns/areas......more riding/tourist orientated.... I have tried to find a good balance of great riding roads & touristy things to see and keep the total tour around 7 - 9 days. This seemed to be the prefered duration posted earlier by members.

2. Everyone will have different priorities & expectations of their tour in TASSIE. Members coming to the TASSIE ASSAULT should not feel obliged to adhere to our itinerary. Feel free to leave or join the group as you wish. You may even want to come earlier or stay a while longer. (Then I can show you the really good rides.)

3. Accomm : Over the next few months I will research different accomm venues at our overnight stops. I'll also to try to get us group discounts. I will post links to websites etc. in the relevant pages of this spreadsheet for you to research. (Thommo will update it regularly) It will be your responsibility to book your own accommodation.

4. As March is "high season" for the tourist industry, it will be advisable to have all accommodation booked well in advanced. Depending on numbers attending, it may be difficult to get enough accomm at the one venue. Therefor the sooner we book the easier it will be. For this reason we must have the itinerary aggreed upon & set in the next few months.

As he notes, this isn't a ride in one tight group etc, but just a guide and you ride at your own pace, stopping whever you want etc. and also giving you the opportunity to get the most out of the trip. I fully understand that some people will drop out for various reasons and others won't be able to commit until the last minute, but that is the way things go in life.
In getting an idea of possible numbers for the trip, we are hoping to get some discounts and the like on accomodation, the boat over and back etc. A couple of bucks here and there certainly does make a difference on a big trip as i am well to aware.

the following link is an Excel file and is approx. 5.5Mb in size. It also contains Macros. Reggie has kindly included google maps of each day.

And not just the Qantas stewards either.

It is planned on being in March though, weather and Holiday season
demands are kinder at this time.
The go at this stage is to avoid staying more than 1/2 a day in
Sydney, although a ride across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a photo
op at the Opera House and Bondi is of course de riguer, however there's
riding to be done and some pretty , scenic routes to be covered.

S.E Q.L.D down through N.S.W will be via the Gwydir & Oxley, then the
Putty Road then Sydney down through the Royal National Park to the
Snowy Mountains via Nowra then down to Melbourne in the state of
Victoria.

These plans , like all, are open to change.

At this stage, the participants are not being named, that will be left
to their discretion, however I believe The Fluffer King has, or is
about to, host a dedicated page on his most excellent FJRALLY site for
those interested in the Two Head Tassie Trip.

So, put your name down, it's not all that far off.
